7 biggest ‘American Idol’ scandals

With “American Idol” coming to an end, fans are getting to relive all the fun and glory of the last 15 seasons during the show’s grand finale with some of “Idol’s” biggest and best highlights. However, it’s unlikely any of these less-than-stellar moments will get a mention.

Let’s take a different kind of walk down memory lane with a look back at seven of Idol’s most infamous scandals.

1. Frenchie’s Racy Disqualification

Season two fan favorite Frenchie Davis was disqualified early in Idol’s second season after she admitted to taking topless photos early in her career. Four years later, in season six, fans were up in arms over an apparent double standard when contestant Antonella Barba was allowed to remain in the competition when revealing, personal photographs surfaced online. Though producers allowed Barba to continue performing, she was ultimately voted off the show by fans.

Frenchie found her way back to the small screen on the first season of “The Voice,” where she competed on Team Christina Aguilera.

2. The Paula Effect

Two years after he was disqualified from Idol for failing to disclose previous legal troubles, season two contestant Corey Clark claimed to have engaged in a romantic relationship with judge Paula Abdul during his time on the show. Clark appeared on a televised “Primetime Live” special on ABC, alleging that the former pop star took him under her wing by offering professional guidance and, later, the pair engaged in a three-month-long sexual relationship.

Abdul andIdol producers dismissed the claims as lies and speculated that Clark was attempting to drum up publicity for his album. Fox appointed an independent counsel to conduct an internal investigation, which found that Clark’s claims regarding a sexual relationship with Abdul were not supported by “any corroborating evidence or witnesses.” Abdul did, however, admit to having telephone conversations with Clark while he was a contestant.

3. ‘Dubious Connections’ and a Former Deal

Season eight contender Joanna Pacitti made it all the way to the Top 36 during Hollywood week before she was deemed “ineligible to compete.” Speculation had already been swirling regarding whether the singer’s previous record deal and moderate success in the music industry should deem her ineligible, though a Billboard report also cited alleged “dubious connections” between Pacitti and staffers at Idol’s production company, 19 Entertainment.

4. Ongoing Conspiracy Theories

Voting controversies have been an all-too-familiar thorn in Idol’s side over the years, stemming all the way back to season two’s Clay Aiken/Ruben Studdard match-up (spurred by a rare on-air flub from Ryan Seacrest, in which he offered three differing figures on the voting gap between the ultimate winner and runner-up).

The following season, fans attempting to vote in the competition between Fantasia Barrino and Diana DeGarmo complained of overloaded phone systems that made it impossible to vote. And in 2009, when Kris Allen upset Adam Lambert for the season nine crown, reports surfaced regarding “Idol” viewing parties in Allen’s home state of Arkansas, in which AT&T employees reportedly taught fans how to “power vote” for their hometown hero. The buzzed-about controversy even earned a Jimmy Fallon-coined nickname: “TextGate.”

5. An ‘Idol’ Alum and a Married Star

Season 11 alumna Brittany Kerr made headlines not for her voice, but for being photographed in a lip-lock with then-married country star Jason Aldean. Kerr later called the moment “a lapse in judgement,” while Aldean blamed it on the alcohol.

“The truth is that I screwed up. I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar,” he said in a statement to TMZ. “I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself. … I left alone and that’s the end of the story.”

Well, not quite. Aldean and his high school sweetheart-turned-first wife ended up divorcing, while Aldean and Kerr tied the knot on March 21, 2015. The whole saga unfolded well after Kerr’s time on the Idol stage, but she has been recognized as a former American Idol contestant in all media coverage of the scandal.

6. The Big Diva Face-Off

New judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj brought fireworks to Idol’s 12th season — but not exactly in a good way. Leaked footage found its way to TMZ, showing theIdol judges at each other’s throats during auditions in Charlotte, North Carolina, with Minaj yelling at Carey: “I’m not going to put up with her f–king highness anymore.”

Reporting on “The View,” Barbara Walters said that Carey had told her via telephone that Minaj had also said, “If I had a gun, I would shoot [her].” Minaj has called the claim a “fabrication.”

Later, in an on-camera interview with Walters, Carey said, “It felt like an unsafe work environment. Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, it’s just not appropriate. Sitting there on the road with two babies, I’m not going to take any chances. So, yeah, I did hire more security.”

The duo continued to add fuel to the fire over the course of the season, with Minaj lashing out frequently on Twitter. In one particularly memorable rant, she referred to Carey as “insecure and bitter.”

7. Things Get Litigious

“Idol” drama turned litigious when season 11 winner Phillip Phillips filed a lawsuit against “Idol’s” co-producers, 19 Entertainment, in an effort to escape an “oppressive” contract.

In court documents filed on Jan. 22, 2015, and obtained by ET, Phillips claimed that the producers had “manipulated” him into accepting jobs and entering into other transactions that were actually for the benefit of 19 Entertainment and its affiliates. The singer’s multiple complaints included being forced to perform in a live show promoting “Idol” sponsor Jet Blue for free, amongst other similarly questionable gigs, with the production company getting as much as a 40 percent cut of his endorsement deals, and information on important career matters being withheld from him. For example, Phillips claimed that the title of his album, “Behind the Light,” was decided without his approval and then announced in the press without him being given any advance notice.

Phillips said he “remains grateful [to ‘American Idol’] for the opportunities provided to him to demonstrate to the world and capitalize upon his talent, creativity and diligence.” However, “the appreciation does not extend to the oppressive, fatally conflicted 19 Entertainment, Inc.”

‘Pitch Perfect 3’ is an upcoming musical comedy film featuring an ensemble cast. Justin Bieber may join Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson for the much-awaited sequel directed by Elizabeth Banks.

According to Hollywood Life, pop sensation Bieber could star in the upcoming sequel to the 2015 musical comedy film of the same name. Insiders have revealed that the 22-year old Canadian singer-songwriter is more than willing to appear on the third installment of the highly popular series.

Bieber recently made a cameo as himself in Ben Stiller’s ‘Zoolander No. 2.’ He has made guest appearances in several musical biopics including Katy Perry’s ‘Part of Me’ and Zendaya’s ‘Behind The Scenes.’ Beiber has also guest starred in a number of television shows such as ‘Punk’d,’ ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Comedy Central Roast.’

A source revealed that “Rebel and Justin exchanged pleasantries at the [Jennifer Lopez] concert that consisted of talk about working together and she mentioned that he should do ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ since they are mutual friends with Adam DeVine.”

DeVine played the role of Bumber Allen in the ‘Pitch Perfect’ cinematic series, for which he won a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Villain.

Meanwhile, according to Cinema Blend, Wilson seems to have a few ideas of her own for the upcoming film. She revealed at a previous interview that it would be interesting to have an origin story for Fat Amy. She also said that she would like the Barden Bellas to become a “legit singing group” as the members graduate from college.

Wilson plays Fat Amy, a Barden Bellas member hailing from Tasmania. She is one of the main protagonists in the series and is oftentimes the character serving as the comic relief.

Brittany Snow is also reprising her role as the Barden Bella’s Chloe Beale. According to Variety, the 30-year old joins Wilson and Kendrick, who have already closed their deals with Universal and Gold Circle.

Elizabeth Banks is set to return as director for ‘Pitch Perfect 3.’ Banks made her full-feature directorial debut in ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ after producing and appearing as a cast member on the original film released in 2012.

‘Pitch Perfect 3’ is a yet untitled sequel to the 2015 film of the same name. It is directed by actress-turned-filmmaker Elizabeth Banks and written for the big screen by Kay Cannon. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 4, 2017.

Hayley Esterline, a third-year in psychology and women’s gender and sexuality studies, and Laurie Hamame, a fourth-year in journalism, are co-presidents of Body Sense, an Ohio campus organization that advocates for self-love. Hamame said Body Sense “fights the consequences of negative body image,” such as the stigma associated with eating disorders, and the student organization donates funds to various body-positive organizations.

Hamame said that the group tries to discuss body image and body positivity, and it hosts activities in new ways every other Wednesday in room 220 in the Younkin Success Center.

“You can talk about body image over and over and over, but it’s not going to make a difference unless you present it in a way no one’s ever heard it before,” Hamame said.

Among the activities Body Sense has organized in the past are actress Brittany Snow’s visit to campus as a guest speaker and the annual spring National Eating Disorder Association Walk, which will be held April 16 this year.

Brittany Snow and Andrew Jenks have become a hot item this holiday season.

The 29-year-old actress and 29-year-old filmmaker have been dating, according to an article on Sunday by E! News.

The Pitch Perfect star and documentary filmmaker were spotted together a few days after Thanksgiving at a New York Knicks basketball game at Madison Square Garden.

An insider said they were ‘casually’ dating as 2016 approaches.

Brittany previously dated Tyler Hoechlin but a source told E! News they split a ‘few months ago’ after dating for more than two years.

Andrew directed and starred in the MTV series World Of Jenks.

Brittany meanwhile has been featured in movies such as John Tucker Must Die, American Dreams and Hairspray.

She played Chloe Beale in Pitch Perfect and its sequel released earlier this year.

Brittany recently wrapped filming of the action movie Bushwick.

The film also stars Dave Bautista and is due out in 2016.

Brittany Snow – Pitch Perfect 3 confirmed? Sounds like it…

Fans are certainly excited for “Pitch Perfect 3,” the third installment to the worldwide hit musical comedy franchise; and if rumors are true, the sequel will start filming next month and will be due for release next year.

Rumors about the production for “Pitch Perfect 3” starting really soon intensified when Latina actress Chrissie Fit, who played Flo in “Pitch Perfect 2,” posted a tweet about a reunion with Brittany Snow, who played Chloe in the first and second installment and who is confirmed to return and reprise her role in “Pitch Perfect 3.”

In a reply to Britanny Snow’s post in Twitter about her watching “The Bachelor,” Chrissie Fit said, “Hahaha! What is wrong with us? Why are we not seeing this together? Can’t wait to see you soon though! Reunited!”

Fans were quick to associate “reunited” with the rumors that “Pitch Perfect 3” will start filming in the first quarter of 2016.

Also, a #Bechloe (Beca + Chloe) Twitter fan account posted on Jan. 31 a tweet suggesting that the production may begin early March, saying, “When you realize Anna Kendrick just summed up our #Bechloe feelings a month before ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ starts filming.”

Parent Herald, in its report, said that “Pitch Perfect 3” is slated for an August 7, 2017 release date, which was moved from its original release date of July 21, 2017, consequently after “Pacific Rim” had glitches in its production.

For the third installment, Beca (Anna Kendrick) and Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) of the Barden Bellas, according to reports, will be going through post-graduation life. And fans are most excited about reports saying Fat Amy will finally tie the knot and find her happy-ever-after with Bumper (Adam DeVine).

Adam DeVine also recently said in an interview during the People’s Choice Awards after-party that he’s been officially asked to return for “Pitch Perfect 3.”

“They’ve asked if I would be willing and I’m like, ‘Probably-just ask me though,” DeVine teased. “I just want to feel like a pretty girl at prom, you know? I want to be invited to the dance for Pete’s sake!”
